Preparing for a Regulatory Storm:

Compliance Crisis Management

A free interactive online course on crisis management held in association with Nabarro

The Concept

The scenario will involve a 'real-life' crisis situation within a financial services firm, and would consist of a highly relevant and interesting contentious matter replicating as closely as possible the timeline of a real crisis.

We will provide an initial set of facts, supplemented over the following days with further information, everything supplied via email. All relevant issues will be considered chronologically as they would be in a real world crisis.

  • Day 1 (Monday):
The scenario is introduced with background to the crisis and relevant facts provided followed by a short number of open questions.
  • Day 2 (Tuesday):
Suggested answers to questions and relevant "war stories".
  • Day 3 (Wednesday):
More information comes to light to enhance the scenario and further challenge the assumptions and course of action taken to date, followed by further questions.
  • Day 4 (Thursday):
Suggested answers and conclusions are presented together with further relevant war stories.
  • Day 5 (Friday):
Webcast: Nabarro lawyers discuss the lessons to be learned from the scenario; the variety of responses given by participants and their own experiences.

Topics that will be highlighted throughout the week:

  • Implementing the immediate steps of managing a crisis
  • Determining whether and in what circumstances informing regulators is appropriate
  • How to manage employment issues
  • In what circumstances should external counsel be involved?
  • When is it right to conduct an internal and/or external investigation
  • When is it right to involve a third party to manage public relations matters?
  • Preparing for a regulatory review
  • How can lessons learned be incorporated into "business as usual"
