Complinet Seminars have been an outstanding event that presented a unique opportunity for GCC financial market’s participants to share experience and address industry compliance related issues. An event with such caliber has provided a much needed dialogue between regulators and different market stakeholders. Complinet’s true value lies in its relentless efforts to connect and develop a network of experts that update and share ideas and provide a backbone to the Compliance field in the region.
Sami Boujelben, MBA, CIM, FCSI; Group Chief Compliance Officer; Orion Holding Overseas, Dubai
The seminar was very illustrative and shed a light on the approval process in both DFSA and QFCRA, and an independent comment from a member of the legal consultancies business. We would welcome such seminars in the future to better understand the regulatory system within GCC.
Hassan Nasser, CAMS & CCO, Financial Compliance Director, Dubai Multi Commodities Centre
I found the seminar to be well organized and very informative. Gave an insider’s view of the authorization process and related areas. Good opportunity to address an important issue of concern to those of us involved in the regional financial markets. Very useful.
Faisal Siddiqui, Manager – Compliance, Sharjah Islamic Bank
I found the seminar extremely relevant to my work. It is always good to be updated on the procedures, supervision and enforcement mechanisms available to the regulator and to learn what about the compliance systems they have in place. Other topics that would be of interest to me in future would be on Insider Trading and Market Abuse – activities like front running, push trading and trading ahead. Professionals in my field would like to see some full case studies on investigations that have been done by the regulators into activities like these.
Melroy Verghese, Market Surveillance Manager – Dubai Mercantile Exchange
Complinet's seminars are invaluable for compliance industry professionals. As regulators we appreciate the need to raise awareness. In my work, I speak to compliance professionals across the board in Qatar and they tell me that every day, the data and information that they must absorb in the form of books is getting more and more complicated. Seminars like these are a practical way to go over a list of our powers and say 'this is what we do and how it affects you'. It makes our job more effective. Also these sessions provide an opportunity for us to meet face to face, as opposed to just over the phone or by email, which is very important.
Andrew Lowe, Associate Director, Legal and Regulatory Compliance Division – Financial Centre Regulatory Authority
This seminar was too good. One of the finest sessions I have attended on compliance matters in my entire career. It really went into depth on enforcement and how the regulators perceive the activities which may be in breach of their rules. And the case studies and examples were really valuable. A future session on Data Protection requirements and case studies for dual reporting and what kinds of issues may arise would be very useful for me too.
Srinivasa Rao Nandiraju, Vice President, Compliance – Kotak Mahindra (International) Limited
In my experience, when an enforcement action is initiated against you or your client, it can be extremely stressful for the firm and for all involved. I think these seminars are relevant and helpful in assisting firms and individual compliance officers to cope. The case studies were especially relevant. It is important for firms with compliance issues to have well informed people involved in the matter - to help them with organizing all of the documents required to engage the regulator. It takes quite a bit of the stress out of the situation for the individual compliance officers. A session on Corporate Governance would be good for the future.
