MENAFATF holds AML/CTF workshop

Jul 19, 2009 Direct News

The Middle East & North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF) has held its third workshop for training assessors in anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CTF) in Bahrain. In a statement, the organisation said 30 experts from MENAFATF member countries attended the conference, which ran from June 28th to July 2nd. The aim of the workshop was to develop the attendees' assessment skills to enable them to participate with greater efficiency in mutual evaluations of AML and CTF systems. Support for the event came from the Central Bank of Bahrain, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. MENAFATF was established in 2004 to promote cross-border cooperation on AML issues between 18 countries including Bahrain, Jordan, Morocco, Syria and the United Arab Emirates. Last month, it reached an agreement with the Asia/Pacific Group on Money Laundering to strengthen cooperation between the two organisations on issues of mutual interest.
