Dubai could call in Interpol in order to track down and arrest the former head of risk assessment at investment firm Istithmar World after he was convicted in absentia of embezzling $1.34m (£809,232). A court in the emirate sentenced Chris Turner to five years in prison earlier this week but the former executive is outside of the United Arab Emirates, the National reports. Speaking to the Zawya Dow Jones newswire, Turner said he was innocent of the charges and that he is no longer in the UAE.
"I'm reviewing my legal options," the Briton said.
Dubai public prosecutor Shoaib Ahly told the National an investigation would be launched to determine Turner's location and "steps will be taken to return him to ... serve his sentence".
Turner was convicted of using Istithmar funds to purchase shares in a British company he owned and funnelling the money to his accounts after the deals were complete.
In addition to his jail sentence, the court orders him to pay over $2.6m in restitution
