Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate business propositions from a legal perspective and deliver effective timely advice to the Group which protects and promotes its interests.
  • Agree with Head of Legal when it is necessary to obtain advice from external solicitors and/or counsel, to then provide clear instructions and liaise with them. Thereafter to present the advice to the business in an appropriate form.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of effective relationships with business units, so that business objectives are met; as well as promoting the reputation of the legal department so that it remains the focal point of the Group for legal issues.
  • Excellent analytical skills coupled with practical problem solving skills
  • Good understanding of Life Assurance, Pensions and other regulated products desired

Experience:

  • Qualified Solicitor
  • A strong knowledge of Employment law is essential
  • Significant Post qualifying experience
  • Knowledge of FSA rules and guidelines desired
  • Wide knowledge of compliance procedures desired
  • Contribute as required to departmental activities and business projects including both internal and external meetings to enhance operational efficiency.
