The UK Asset Servicing Compliance Advisory team provides compliance oversight and advisory support for the UK Asset Servicing operations and the treasury function for EMEA. The compliance team work alongside business unit risk partners to ensure compliance controls are embedded within the business. Northern Trust is considered a ‘high-impact’ firm and is subject to the Financial Services Authority’s (‘FSA’) close and continuous supervision framework. As such, the UK Asset Servicing Compliance Advisory team is also responsible for the management and oversight of regulator meetings and site visits.
The role offers excellent exposure to someone from a product development, FSA regulatory technical specialist, legal, compliance, operational or consultancy background who wishes to further their career in a major asset servicing firm.
The Head of UK Asset Servicing Compliance Advisory seeks to hire talented professionals who would be able to transfer existing skills to further strengthen the compliance function and deliver on its strategic objectives.
POSITION OVERVIEW
You will be required to deliver a proactive “consultancy” style service, offering technical advice, interpretation and training on corporate policy, regulatory issues and new developments. The role will also involve client liaison and management of visits by NT’s regulators.
The role holder will report to the Head of UK Asset Servicing Compliance Advisory and be part of a 5 person team.
Principal Responsibilities
Keeping up to date with existing/new regulatory developments, with responsibility for communicating change to the business:

Acting as adviser to the business with the identification, measurement and management of compliance risk matters as it relates to the business unit’s existing business and planned strategic or operational changes.

Provide training to Northern Trust partners

Manage examination visits by NT’s UK and US regulators

Promoting a positive compliance culture through communication and oversight of regulatory responsibilities at all levels.

Detecting/advising local management of potential compliance problems and recommending changes/ enhancements. Contributing to the development/updating of policies, procedures and business practices where these relate to compliance initiatives.

Devise and produce periodic Management Information (KPIs/KRIs) where applicable

Building effective internal and external networks that ensure awareness and application of best practice across the organisation.

Liaising with and reporting to clients; managing and/or participating in site visits.
