British Gas supplies electricity and gas to residential and business customers; as well as delivering the UK’s premier heating and electrical care, installations and drainage services to home customers. We have now created, from scratch, an insurance company to develop a broader insured product choice to our customer base. Having recently been approved by the FSA, we are now recruiting a Compliance Manager, Policy & Advice to join our compliance team.

Compliance Manager, Policy & Advice (Insurance) – The Overview:

  • Platform to deliver world-class insurance compliance adhering with FSA regulations to develop our insurance compliance function.
  • Integral to leading future profit growth within British Gas.

The Compliance Manager, Policy & Advice will be responsible for undertaking the regulatory policy and advice activities; and provide core administrative development and support to the central Compliance team.

Through timely action the Compliance Manager, Policy and Advice will actively support the business and will:

  • Risk assess regulatory change as it impacts on the business
  • Risk assess business change and associated regulatory issues

Compliance Manager, Policy & Advice (Insurance) – The Vacancy:

  • Provision of Regulatory Advice across the businesses, considering both regulatory change and business change
  • Delivering up to date knowledge of financial services regulatory development and changes in the market; monitoring of press, compliance forums and FSA site to identify potential regulatory development
  • Risk assess potential impact on the regulated entities – consider commercial and operational impact
  • Provide timely impact assessment for senior management and other key stakeholders delivering detailed and considered response to regulatory change
  • Ensure up to date personal knowledge of regulatory development
  • Deliver periodic regulatory updates to management highlighting regulatory risk for the regulated companies
  • Provide the Central Compliance team with regular, comprehensive regulatory development training and support
  • Ensure the wider Compliance team are fully briefed on regulatory and business change issues
  • Assessment of Regulatory returns
  • Manage Approved Person applications and removals
  • To assist in the design & development of the risk based regulatory framework and monitoring plan – HQ activities

Compliance Manager, Policy & Advice (Insurance) – The Person:

The successful Compliance Manager, Policy & Advice (Insurance) must possess all the following career experience. This must be clearly demonstrated throughout your CV.

  • Proven experience of insurance compliance monitoring within a large complex UK regulated company (ideally FTSE 100 or equivalent).
  • Proven ability to provide guidance to the insurance users within a large consumer led company.
  • Proven detailed knowledge of FSA regulations for insurance sector and having developed an understanding of FSA compliance across a non-insurance business.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of FSA regulations (policy and regulations) and the developments for the insurance sector.
  • Excellent understanding of business processes and change management
  • Someone who has successfully coached and developed insurance policy compliance as a business critical function within a traditional non-insurance organisation.
  • Proven track record of working for branded “customer-centric” organizations.

This position has been newly created to provide support to the Senior Compliance Manager, Policy & Advice and to drive the success of our new product propositions.
